Chrisette Michele recently came out with a new single after a brief hiatus entitled "Steady" and she's exerting her independence by releasing it on her own new label, "Rich Hipster" through Capitol/Caroline Records The Boom Box reveals. Click below to have a listen.

"Rich Hipster" is the overarching brand behind everything Chrisette Michele, as she also has the clothing line Rich Hipster Belle as reported by Essence, and Rich Hipster TV which you can find on her website RichHipster.Biz, and on her YouTube

I was quite intrigued when I realized that Michele does daily vlogs and also blogs on her Rich Hipster site under the title "My Thoughts Exactly". I don't know of a lot of artists that vlog, and watching it instantly made her more "human" if that makes sense.

They say that social media should be used as a tool to connect with your audience and not just to promote yourself, and as a slight YouTube phene myself, I think it's an excellent tool to share of yourself. Michele herself shares on her blog that:

"Rich Hipster is a place where we come together and share love, build each other up, and shape a positive community that is rich in heart + art."

Michele herself was a fan of YouTube, using it watch fashion tutorials, which led to her own 'outfits of the week vlogs' under the name "Femme Grunge", that have since evolved to her sharing other bits of her life.

I've advocated on here to use social media to get discovered, but this story shows the value of having an online presence even after you've made it. For a peek into Chrisette Michele's week this past week, check out her vlog below.
