The Importance of Living a Life of Purpose
This Friday is the movie premier of Captive which is based on a true story about Brian Nichols who escapes from a courtroom and takes a young mother captive. The movie also stars the late actress J. Karen Thomas, a Nashville native actress, singer, and voice-over artist, mostly known for her roles in the TV-series Nashville, Drop Dead Diva, and Army Wives.
What makes the movie Captive special is of course that it's based on a true story, but also the role the book, The Purpose Driven Life plays. This best-selling book has had a major impact on so many that even CNN relayed the impact this book has had, and still has.
One of the movie testimonials includes a quote saying, "A powerful true story of faith over fear." Remember when I said that Hollywood is after faith-based content? Well I did here, and this further proves it. Although it's a suspense/thriller movie, it's centred around what faith can do, and the book authors quote that says
“The greatest tragedy is not death, but life without purpose.”
The price of not pursuing your purpose is too high because it's not only your personal deliverance, but that of others too who are waiting for your gift. The late Dr. Myles Munroe often said that "the wealthiest place on earth is the cemetery", and "don't go to the grave with your treasure still within you."
I just really want to emphasis this today that we can't let fear run (or ruin) our lives. J. Karan past away at the age of 50. She was diagnosed with cancer in January of this year and past in March! Thank God she pursued her gift of acting and singing, because 3 months while sick is not the opportune time to start going on auditions.
You don't know what tomorrow holds so what are you waiting for? There's no such thing as the perfect time. I have 4 boys that don't always make for the "easiest", most "convenient" life, but it's my life and I'm blessed for it. I can't wait until they're grown to live my life, because I don't know what tomorrow will bring. There's no time like the present! Alicia Keys agreed in her lyrics to Like You'll Never See Me Again stating "I don't wanna forget the present is a gift".
