If Opportunity Doesn't Come Knocking, Build A Door
I came across an artist by the name of Carrie Mae Weems who has contributed greatly to the world of Arts, so much so that she was honoured by the American Academy in Rome's 2015 Spring Gala. Though Carrie is an artist in many aspects, she mainly known for her photography.
She was inspired to become a photographer after coming across "The Black Photography Annual", a book containing images of various African-American photographers. This book, as described in the April 1973 issue of Ebony, is the result of 3 African-American photographers who found it hard to display their photography elsewhere. With no one willing to provide a platform for them, they created one. And herein lies todays message.
You cannot sit around and wait for someone else to always create the opportunity for you. Especially in today's day and age with social media. It might be a little more work on your part to create your platform and your own opportunity, but Edison was right when he said:
Trust me, I love a little black dress, but this blog is entitled "Beyond a little black dress" for a reason. I just had a conversation with my mom today that as much as we dislike the 9-5 hustle, it's easy. You know when to show up, and you know when to leave. You don't have to work a minute after 5 (in many cases), and you certainly don't have to work on the weekend.
The thing about embarking on the journey to pursuing your dream though is that once you start "building that door", you become more aware of ways and possibilities to help make your dream a reality. And do you know why? Because it's your purpose. So don't worry that you don't know the "how" yet. Just don't let it hold you back from trying. The how will reveal itself because:
Be blessed!
