Why A Dancing Career Starts In Your Mind Before It Gets To Your Feet

Dancing career Kyndall Harris

This morning it dawned on that the reason I started this blog, and particularly to encouraging careers outside of the cubicle, is because for the longest I believed that such a career wasn't really a career at all.

I realized that yea, I can blame my mom for growing up believing that only corporate careers where legitimate careers, but then I remembered that when my step-sister moved from Sweden to New York to go to school for photography, I was thinking "wow, that's brave. Good luck with that". (Yet moving to Canada with 2 kids which I did wasn't 'brave' because I was going into finance, lol). My mindset was of the opinion that photography, dance, singing, and the like, was only a hobby. Only a handful of "lucky" people actually get to make a living off of it.

As I'm typing this, I almost have to laugh that that was my thinking. It's one thing for my 50-something mom to think this (she doesn't anymore by the way), but I was in my 20's with 2 kids and thought being a dancer was "cute". Perhaps having kids at a young age forced me to think of more "assured" careers, but at the end of the day, I simply didn't know. And that's why I'm doing this, so that you can know that there are options out there, and options that are not only viable, but profitable! You too may be a mother and have responsibilities, but that's even more of a reason to pursue your dream, to show your children that it's possible. It's never too late to start.

A young girl whose mindset is miles ahead of what mine was is Kyndall Harris. Her Facebook page's about me section lists her as Entertainer, Dancer, Actress, Kid Reporter, and Entrepreneur. Her Instagram account name has a ™ after it. That's someone about her business!

Because this is Two-Step Saturday I'm going to highlight her dancing career. At her tender age of 12, she's performed at the BET Music Awards alongside Ciara and is currently on Janet Jackson's Unbreakable Tour

I don't share this to make us feel worse about not having started already, I share so that we can realize that the transition needs to start in our mind. How many 12 year olds are on a world tour? It's not about what we've been programmed to be appropriate, it's about reprogramming our minds to know and believe that whatever we want is possible if we work towards it. Key word: work, lol. I've come a long way in my mindset and thinking in the past 10 years, and I know you will too.

Love y'all! Stay blessed!
