Why Monica Brown Advices That You Be Fearless
Happy Monday, happy people. Yesterday I was talking about following your initial intuition and not overthinking things. Well, today that message confirmed when I had the opportunity to ask Monica Brown a question during her live interview with Huffington Post.
My question for Monica, (at the 23:20 mark) was "What would Monica today tell Monica from the 90's about attaining success as a singer?" Her answer, surprisingly, was that she takes advice from her younger self, which is "Be fearless!" She elaborated that with age we tend to overthink decisions. This is exactly what I said. Now rather than reiterating yesterday's blog post, go ahead and read it right here. Instead, what I want to share with you is believing God to open doors for you.
Monica may have grown up in the music industry, sharing that she performed at her church at the tender age of 3. However, opportunities are available to all those that are persistent enough to pursue them. She also shares how she's not competing with her fellow female R&B singers because there's room for everyone. This fact holds true in every aspect, not just in the music industry. If you stop peeking over the fence, constantly comparing yourself, but concentrate on your own efforts, you will actually get somewhere.
I started blogging with topics that I'm passionate about, entertainment, black Hollywood, and encouraging women to pursue their dreams, not knowing how to monetize this concept. The course I was part of when I launched this blog emphasised that I blog on a topic that I can monetize one way or another, but I stuck to my "hunch" and I know it will serve me well. Today's interview is just the beginning.
I don't know what your aspirations are, but I do know that they're valid without justification. Trust that God has already made a way for you, and take a leap of faith. "Leap and the net will appear" ~John Burroughs
