Kelly Rowland's Chasing Destiny and So Should You

April 5, 2016 Violette W.
Chasing Destiny, pursue your dreams, Kelly Rowland, BET

Back in October last year I wrote and encouraged you guys to apply for Kelly Rowland's open call auditions for her upcoming show where she hopes to find the next Destiny's Child. Well if you snoozed, you certainly lost out, as today is the premier on BET of "Chasing Destiny," right after Black Girl Rocks.

USA Today reports that Rowland isn't looking for reality stars, but stars to fill the void she's noticed of girl groups lately. This is something I applaud, doing something about a perceived void. You can either talk about it or be about it. And Rowland chose the latter. Making a show about it too is just clever business.

BET's president of programming, Stephen Hill called today 'BET's Black-Girls-Black-Power-Super-Tuesday' over on Snapchat due to the channels program lineup tonight. They even aired the movie Dreamgirls commercial-free last Saturday to get us prepped for all the #BlackGirlPower happening.

That Saturday was also the actual taping and show Black Girls Rock where of course Kelly Rowland attended and walked the red carpet.

I think it's really encouraging to be in a time where women of colour are being encouraged and uplifted. There truly is nothing you can't do if you put your heart and mind to it. The hashtag #BlackGirksRock isn't just a cute saying or something to use to get more likes or retweets. It's a declaration that you can and should speak over yourself daily.

The organization Black Girls Rock is celebrating it's 10 year anniversary this year and I'm sure founder Beverly Bond hadn't foreseen partnering up with BET 4 years later, much less having female presidential candidate Hillary Clinton attending.

The thing is, you have to start somewhere. Start where you are by realizing you hold the keys to your own destiny. Realize your true God-given potential and take a leap of faith to pursue your dreams. When the words 'Black Girls Rock' become part of how you perceive and carry yourself, the world will have no choice but accept it as truth as well.

If you're in need of some inspiration or mere entertainment, tune your TVs to BET tonight, starting at 8PM Est.

Stay Blessed!
